5 Hours of Pampering: A Comprehensive Review of Golden Leaf Health Spa

Black White Detective Murder Mystery Invitation

Welcome to the first review of my SPA DETECTIVE series.  As promised, I will give you a comprehensive review of the Golden Leaf Health Spa in Marcos Highway, Pasig City and ta-da!  Here it is!  If you will come from Masinag Market and you will go to Cubao, you will notice the sign at the right side. The spa is on the 3rd floor of the Semicon Bldg. (just before you reach Ayala Feliz Mall).

img_5890

A few days ago, I booked for body scrub and deep cleansing facial by texting their number.  The receptionist has successfully confirmed my booking for yesterday’s treatment at 11am.   Because I knew that I had to be on time, I even texted them while I was on my way to the spa– I got no reply.   When I reached the third floor, I thought that I had opened the glass door by mistake because it looks like an abandoned place, then I saw the Golden Leaf Spa sign– I was relieved that I came to the right place.   I was expecting that they knew about my appointment, but there was no receptionist when I came.  There were two ladies who entertained me and it was strange that they do not know about the services and packages that they offer.  They had to verify by calling the receptionist about the packages.

My first impression:  The reception area was just fine, but not that impressive.  In the metro area, I should say Z Spa has the coziest and most relaxing ambiance so far.  The place was big though, and I was excited to explore it.  There were decorations and floral arrangements, but the furnishings and accents are not as modern as what Z Spa and Soulscape Spa use.  Well, I knew that i couldn’t judge just because of the first impression and I waited patiently to find out more if I would enjoy the experience.

While the two ladies (which I found out to be food servers) were contacting the receptionist, they ushered us to the dining room area where they turned on the television and offered us glasses of iced tea and mini siopao.

After drinking the complimentary refreshments, Ms. Ruth ushered us to the Female Sanctuary wherein the wet area is located.  The place reminds me of Baguio City wherein the furnishings are quite old and worn-out, but I must commend them for having a wet area which is FREE usage in most of the services and packages that they offer.  Actually, that is what I am looking for in a hotel or fitness club– a functional wet area.  We were given the locker key and she assisted me with the use of the steambath, sauna and jacuzzi.

In the locker, there was a pair of old gold robe and shorts, old white towel, a bottle of mineral water, a pair of blue slippers and a mint.

img_5843

The place needs a TOTAL RENOVATION and MAKE-OVER as well as UPGRADE in everything that they use in the spa.  Theres should be new and fresh towels and linens.    In the wet area, there is one toilet, 3 shower areas, steambath, sauna and a jacuzzi.

img_5844

img_5848

When I arrived at 11 am, I was the only one there so I had the wet area only to myself.  After almost ten minutes in the steambath and sauna, I had a hot shower and used the jacuzzi!  The good news is that I was the first one also to use it 🙂

After few minutes, I talked to Ms. Percy, their supervisor/manager and clarified about the service I booked.  Originally, I booked for body scrub ala carte for P650 and deep cleansing facial for P350–that already includes the wet area usage.  What I wanted was to find out if they have other packages close to my budget.  If I will use a private room, which I really wanted because of privacy, I need to add P300 and the total bill that I have to settle is P1300.  I was informed that there is a package amounting to P1499 which includes 24k facial plus body scrub and usage of private jacuzzi.  (I was thinking that it would be practical to avail this since I will just add P200).  My mind was already set that I will be having that package instead.  I knew that I only had the jacuzzi for myself that time, but there might be customers who will use the wet area in a while, and I will have NO MORE privacy at all.

When I was already prepared for the body scrub, I was confused because they led me to a room with a curtain.  I was thinking that I would be in the private room, but I also thought that probably, they a room intended only for body scrub. In my mind, I knew there was something wrong already because if I chose a private room with private jacuzzi, why don’t they let me use the room for the body scrub so I can have my privacy?

Because it was already past 12nn, I decided to eat first.  We had our unlimited dimsum which was also included in the package.  We had bowl of goto and glass of iced tea.  They have food servers to assist you with the food and drinks.

After lunch, we went back to the Maple room and I was surprised to see what they are using in their body scrub.

Oats and Milk Body Scrub

img_5870

Oats and milk body scrub

According to Leah, our therapist, they use oats and milk to moisturize the skin, leaving it soft and smooth after the treatment.  Surprisingly, it wasn’t itchy and Ms. Leah made me feel comfortable also.  I was advised to go to the steambath and sauna again after the body scrub treatment for a better effect in my skin.  I dipped in the jacuzzi and while I was enjoying, a customer came to the wet area.  I inquired about the private room with private jacuzzi that I availed earlier.  I was aghast when I was told that I won’t be using a private jacuzzi and there was no private room either.  That particular moment, I was about to explode, but I controlled myself.  Honestly, though the place is quite old, I like their wet area and the private jacuzzi and bath tub.  I was about to complain because I was really upset how they were disorganized–suddenly, Ms. Percy appeared and told me that she already prepared the private jacuzzi.

When I asked about the facial (because I was expecting that I will have the 24k facial for 1 hour, she told me it’s the same a la carte deep cleansing facial that i will have in a few minutes and because I added a private jacuzzi, I will just settle only P1300.  It was like, “Oh no! What the hell are you talking about?  A while ago, I already told you what i wanted.  I emphasized the word PRIVACY!   How can you be guys that disorganized?”   (I was only yelling at them mentally) Probably, she could have sensed that I was getting impatient, she left to check their packages and told me that in the P1499, the inclusions are the following:  body scrub, deep cleansing facial, hot milk bath, full body massage and private room.  Only in that particular moment, we have understood each other.  As much as I wanted to complain, I didn’t ruin my day anymore– the fact that the reason I was there was to destress.  We were ushered to the Bamboo room, and prepared for our hot milk bath.

img_5876

In the room, there were two beds intended for couple.  There was no door to isolate the toilet.  It’s just an open space wheiren the bath tub and shower area is located with dividers for the lavatory and watercloset.    I had the milk bath for about 20 minutes (next time, I will have it loooonger).   It was the best hot bath I had so far and I will have it again in my next visit.

img_5875

After the hot milk bath, I went to the facial area for my deep cleansing facial.  It only lasted for less than 30 minutes.  Honestly, the P350 is not worth it 😦  I would love to try the 24k Facial next time.

After the facial, I went back to the Bamboo room and got ready for the massage.  I only requested to have a back massage and Shane availed of the remaining minutes left.

img_5880

img_5881

I enjoyed the massage, it was too relaxing.  In other spas, you won’t feel relaxed.  On the contrary, it looks like you were beaten after the treatment.   Thanks to Leah for listening well.

img_5882

After the treatment, I asked Ms. Hazel, the receptioinst for a cup of coffee in the dining area.  I was expecting her to order the servers to prepare that for me since in Soulscape Spa,  the receptionist request the hot tea/water over the phone as well as the treatments to be pfrepared.  I was even more astounded when Ms. Hazel prepared the cup of coffee herself and gave us bowls of goto, siomai and siopao.  She even served the other guests.

I remembered Ms. Leah told me earlier during our massage treatment that all the staff that I see are also massage therapists including the janitress and food servers.

img_5886

MY VERDICT:

I was satisfied with the body scrub, facial, massage and wet area, BUT there are few things that they need to improve.

  1.  The staff should be knowledgeable about their spa packages.  They should be coordinated as well.
  2. The receptionist should be there in the opening to welcome the guests.
  3. Since they own the place, they should renovate it and give a modern and more relaxing ambiance plus an upgrade of the furnishings and almost everything in the spa.
  4. Add more food in their unlimited dimsum.
  5. The staff should be professional in dealing with customers.

Though I was quite disappointed, I will come back 🙂  Why?

GOOD POINTS

  1.  The place is spacious enough.
  2.  They have unlimited dimsum included already when you availed of their packages/services.
  3. They have free usage of wet area (jacuzzi, steam bath and sauna).
  4. They have private jacuzzi and bath tub in the private room.
  5. Their spa packages are reasonably priced.

I definitely recommend Golden Leaf Spa; however, clarify the service that you avail to avoid confusion.

TBIP’s Upcoming Baguio Trip

Leave a comment Standard

Hello!  Since December is the only month this year where I can have a short break and unwind, I decided to have my press trip in Baguio City.  We are really busy and we still have work until 22nd and a lot of parties and other events are also scheduled that’s why I have chosen to have our vacay on the 27th til the 30th of this month.  We will be staying in Microtel Baguio (one of my favorite places to stay when I am in Baguio).

In our four-day stay in the Summer Capital of the Philippnes, I will be featuring different cafes, restaurants, bakeries/pastry shops and spas to visit.  (Watch out for that- I will be posting these establishments in my Facebook and Instagram account as well.)

Aside from that here are the activities that we will be having:

  1.  The Lourdes Grotto Challenge
  2.  Pasalubong Shopping
  3.  Strawberry Picking
  4. Horseback Riding and Biking
  5.  Oh My Gulay (Vegetables)  and Fruits Haggling Challenge
  6.  Halukay sa Ukay-Ukay

Originally, we are booked only until the 29th but since I have a lot of businesses to feature, I extended another day.  Thank you, Microtel Baguio for granting my request 🙂    I will see if I can still squeeze some time to have more activities.  Any suggestions?  Feel free to leave a comment below.

Achieving My Beauty Routine @Nailaholics

Leave a comment Standard

I have a BIG revelation this coming summer and I am carefully planning about it.   Part of my preparation for this is to have a fitness and beauty routine.  I am already working on my achieving my beach-ready body by being a member of Fitness First.   I get to visit the club at Robinson’s Metroeast thrice per week, but I do my workout at home daily so I also burn some calories.  I am already working on creating my own meal plan that will help me achieve my fitness goals.  I know that I am already in the right track but it isn’t enough yet.

Because of the nature of my job, I am superstressed all the time so I need to devote a little of my precious time to destress.  Aside from having facials, body scrubs to achieve the perfect glow of my skin on April, I also need to have hair, foot and nail pampering.

In this post, I will share about the Vitamin Sea Package that I had in Nailaholics Nail Salon & Spa after my workout.  It is so convenient for me because it is also located in the 3rd Floor of Robinson’s MetroEast, Marcos Highway, Cainta, Rizal–so, right after my workout, I can also have my destressing session there.

Upon entering Nailaholics, I was relaxed by the clean and quiet ambiance.   They have a summer backdrop that will set your mood to relax.  I had their Vitamin Sea Package (manicure, pedicure and foot spa)  I loved the feeling while my feet were soaked in the warm water.

img_2897

I met these gorgeous and friendly staff (Jho- who did the foot spa and pedicure & Rubie who did the manicure).  I have chosen the color of my nail polish– guess what?  Yes, you’re correct, hihi!  I have chosen pink 🙂  I would have tried nail art, but then they do not have the tools.  They have it in the other branches– it just happened that they do not have it when I came.  In the Vitamin Sea Package, they use the regular but branded nail polish.  They recommend the gel polish as it stays longer than the regular ones.  Hmmm, probably next time I will have the gel manicure and pedicure.  I was informed that they have an ongoing 15% discount to their gel manicure and pedicure.

img_3118

Compared to the other salons, Nailaholics makes sure what the customers want.  Rubie asked first about the desired length and shape of my fingernails.  She gently massaged the fingers  and asked me if I felt any pain at all.  You will totally feel comfortable and would like to stay for the rest of the day, hehehe 🙂

I’ve been to other nail salons and I was used to the experience that the attendant was always in a hurry so in about less than 15 or 20 minutes, I’m already done with the foot spa and pedicure and of course, I ended up dissastisfied with the service.   I was surprised  that it took them more or less one hour for the whole service.

If you would like to try the Vitamin Sea Package and their other packages as well, you can visit Nailaholics.  Please click their website for their services and branches.

Relaxation & Serenity @ Z Spa

Leave a comment Standard

As promised, I will share about my experience in Z Spa last week.  I have chosen the Mother of Pearl Body Scrub as suggested by the owner, Ms. Chat.  Well, as the name suggests, it can give you a glowing effect on your skin.  We were ushered to our executive room with its own CR (with shower and bath tub) and sauna.  After I had the sauna for about lesst than 10 minutes, I took a quick shower.  The therapist, Karen, handed me a disposable T-back underwear and a towel.

img_2670

img_2606

For my Mother of Pearl Body Scrub

In the photo above, you will see the aloe vera, the coconut oil and the other one (I forgot what it’s called) for the foot reflex.  I was informed that all the ingredients used in their spa are all-naturals.  Unlike the other spas, they do not use mineral oil because it can make the skin very dry.

img_2610

Below is the video of our body scrub treatment.  I wasn’t able to take a photo of all the dead skin cells removed by Karen.  The Mother of Pearl Body Scrub is a whitening treatment, but of course do not expect quick results.  Yes, your skin will be lightened, but it won’t take long.  You need to have at least 2 sessions per month for your skin to achieve the best results.

After taking a hot bath in the tub, Shane and I had our foot wash and  my Swedish massage after.

Their foot wash is something different compared to what we had in Discovery Shores last summer.  It was foamy and very relaxing.

Because we were relaxed, we forgot that it was already 7pm, hihi!  You won’t get bored during your treatment because you have the option to turn on the TV in the room.  For those who would like to be relaxed, there’s a soothing music being played during the treatment.

I would recommend Z Spa because the place is really clean and the staff are very professional; however, I would appreciate it more if they would have the clients fill out the info sheet first before they start the treatment.  My therapist asked me if I have allergies or any sickness, but it would be better if they will have their own file as well.

Introducing Z Spa: The Perfect Place to Destress in Metro Manila

Leave a comment Standard

A day before my birthday I was given two special treats:  first was the discounted membership fee @ Fitness First and after a 20 -25 minutes ride from Robinsons Metroeast, I had a relaxing and destressing session in Z Spa.  It is located on the 2nd Floor of Ace Hotel & Suites in United cor. Brixton Streets, Pasig City.  They just opened this October that’s why most of you are not familiar with Z Spa yet.   The spa itself (with the area of 460 square meters) is well-maintained (literally spotless because the owner is very particular with cleanliness and hygiene).  The interior design is impressive as well.  The furnitures and home decors are made of  wood because it is associated with the meaning of Z in Zosima which is life.

img_2642

Upon entering, we were welcomed by their receptionist and after that, we waited in their lounge and we had our welcome drinks.  I have learned that it was the owner, Ms. Chat, who personally prepares the refreshing cucumber juice with ginger and lemon.

img_2648

I have chosen to have the Coco Body Scrub (for anti-aging) but after talking to Ms. Chat, I decided to have the Mother of Pearl Body Scrub (for whitening) instead.  I was actually intrigued because she told me that i will be amazed of the result.  (There will be a separate post  about my Z Spa Experience).

img_2595

There are two hallways.  The first one has De Luxe rooms for the Thai & Swedish Massage with a common CR and the other one has Executive rooms (with own CR, sauna, bath tub and shower area).

img_2667

This is the room for single person used for the Thai massage.

The De Luxe rooms for two and three persons

img_2663

The common CR

Below is our executive room (for two persons) where I had the body scrub.  Like the De Luxe Rooms, all rooms are also air-conditioned.   I liked the privacy and comfortability that we had.  We started the treatment at 3pm and because we were so relaxed, it ended at past 7pm.  My therapist, Karen, was very friendly and she made me feel comfortable.

For you to appreciate the place more,  I have here a video of the lobby.  It would be better though if you will visit in your free time and destress just like what I did!

Here are the services that they offer:

Thai Massage  (60 mins-P750) (90 mins-P1100) (120 mins P1300)

Swedish Massage  (60 mins-P850) (90 mins-P1200) (120 mins P1400)

 Foot Reflex (90 mins-P970) (120 mins P1250)

Body Scrub

Mother or Pearl Body Scrub (90 mins) P2200

Coco Body Scrub (90 mins) P2000

Underarm Whitening Treatment (Package of 6 sessions) 5 + 1  P6,800

This Underarm Whitening Treatment is soooooo interesting— honestly, I need this for my Boracay escapade this coming April 2018; however, another option is for you to have the body scrub at least twice per month to have a glowing effect in your skin.  Their slimming service is something also to be watched out for and they will offer it SOON.  The skin tightening service is quite interesting.  This is the perfect solution for those who are dying to have nice legs and arms this coming summer.  This is actually my problem, hihi!— once I have solved my problems with my weight, the problem is that my skin sags.

In Z Spa, all the therapists were professionally trained.  They have certificates from TESDA and had one month training from DOH.  One thing that I also like is that they are kid-friendly.  In fact, they allowed my daughter Shane to stay in my Executive room to watch cartoons, have a hot bath in the tub and a have a calming foot wash.

This is definitely worth a try!  To be pampered and relaxed, you may visit them and see for yourself.

A Blissful Experience at Tirta Spa

Leave a comment Standard

The primary reason of having my Boracay trip is to enjoy and forget all work-related stress.  It was an excellent decision that I have included Tirta Spa in my itinerary.  The renowned spa is stationed in Sitio Malabunot, Manoc-Manoc in Boracay Island- a 15-20 minute drive from the main road.  A visit here is perfect if you intend to simmer down for a while and forget about all the negative things that bother you.

entrance1.jpg

Upon reaching the place, you will be astounded with the elegant entrance of the structure and picturesque surroundings showcasing a taste of different Asian cultures.  Our arrival was announced by the sound of the temple gong which releases all the negative energy.   Upon entering the lobby, I couldn’t help but to admire the choice of furnitures and decorations inside the lobby and seeing all the accolades speak why they are the best and number one spa in Boracay.

awards.jpg

awards 3.jpg

All of the awards they have earned since they opened in 2007 proved that Ms. En Calvert, the owner and managing director (now based in Dubai)  has indeed succeeded in making Tirta Spa a world-class spa.  Since 2012, they have been bagging prestigious international spa industry awards – (“Best Day Spa in Asia and Asia Pacific” and “Best Luxury Day Spa”) in different organizations.  In 2015, they have received the Certificate of Excellence Award from TripAdvisor, thus enlisted them into Hall of Fame.

We were greeted by Rose, the front desk officer.   She gave us each a glass of  fresh calamansi juice and asked me to register.  Because I was still enthralled with every single detail in the lobby , I didn’t even notice that Rose was asking me to choose a spa package.  I selected the Anti-time Facial and body massage (one of the Biodroga Facial packages) because my skin needs pampering.  I would really want to achieve a youthful look.   I was asked to select an oil which will be used for the massage– I have selected Ylang-ylang because it helps to release stress and anxiety.

Before the treatment, I was fortunate to meet the gorgeous and charming manager, Ms. Cecille Acuna.   As we have a quick tour in the 1 hectare property, she shared to me how her sister, Ms. En had made Tirta the best spa in the island.  Because they already have made a name in the international spa industry, that was the perfect time to open a branch in Dubai.  For that reason, Ms. Cecille had to take over, and with the help of Ms. En, she was able to manage Tirta Spa.

The fantastic view itself will make you feel relaxed, what more if you have availed one of their spa packages?   Tirta is currently the leading spa in Boracay not only because of the impressive architectural design and exhilirating ambience, but of their superb service.  The rates might be considered exorbitant –because they are offering service beyond compare and all of the ingredients/products used are of premium quality.

On our way to the villas, we passed by Prashant Spa, a Tirta brand with affordable rates.   This is perfect to Filipinos who would like to have the Tirta Spa experience — same quality of service, same therapists, the only thing that differs is the ambience and set-up.  (A separate article will be posted in this blog about Prashant Spa).  On the second floor,  I have spotted a hidden haven- a luxury Home Stay accommodation at Tirta Spa.  (It will be featured in a separate post).

As I entered the Thai villa, a relaxing music was played- setting the mood for me to unwind.  Before the treatment, I was introduced to Lady (my therapist) and April (her assistant.  At first I felt uncomfortable, but they were very professional in dealing with their customers.  I was given complete instructions – from undressing, taking a shower, and putting my stuff in the safety deposit box. .

The treatment started with the foot ritual..  “Tirta” comes from the Hindu word means “Holy Water”  which cleanses our body and soul and drives away  all the negative energy.  Lady placed a white flower on my right ear.and I was given fresh ginger tea.

After the foot wash, Lady presented the Biodroga products that she will use for my Anti-Time Facial and body massage which is priced at P7,320.   The authentic Biodroga products that they using are from Germany.

Time has finally come and I had one of the most unforgettable activity in Boracay 2017– the Tirta Spa Experience!  Hubby and I had the complimentary massage by the beach last year (part of Estacio Uno’s package when you book with them), but it was a different experience.  Honestly, instead of feeling relaxed, I felt like I was beaten.

In the registration, I have chosen to have medium pressure in the massage and even requested to have a 10-minute focus on the upper back.   I was about to request Lady to shift into light  pressure in the leg part,   but she knew whether her client is comfortable or not.  As if she can read my mind, she asked me if I would like have the massage in lighter pressure.  She made sure I was comfortable in the entire treatment.   I didn’t hear any conversation from her and her assistant.   When she was talking to me, her voice was like that of one of the sirens ( a creature in Greek mythology who lured sailors with their enchanting music and voices).  I resisted the temptation to fall asleep because I would like to enjoy every second of the treatment.

treatment preparation 2.jpg

treatment preparation.jpg

After the treatment, I felt younger and rejuvenated.  I received a compliment from hubby and my daugther Shane told me that I looked young and I had a different glow.  For spa lovers especially those who would like to look and feel younger, I recommend Anti-Time Facial and Body Massage.

For inquiries or reservation, you may contact Tirta Spa directly.  They have different packages to choose from.
