My Boracay 2019 Day 5 (Summer Diaries Special)

Leave a comment Standard

Hubby and I really wanted to go back to Puka Shell Beach because the kids wanted to collect seashells and have a morning swim, but if we will push through with that itinerary, nobody would buy food for the rest of the family members who will stay in the loft room for lunch and dinner.  We made sure though, that we squeezed our time in the morning to swim with the kids in the infinity pool.  Though we were not satisfied with the loft room in Alta Vista de Boracay, our consolation prize is the swimming pool.  As long as the kids are enjoying, I can temporarily forget that I was totally disappointed.

As early as 6:15am , we were already in the lobby so we can wait for L’Altura where the buffet breakfast is served to open.  While waiting, I spoke to the front desk officer that we would be out to transfer to another hotel but two adults and 1 kid would be staying and the senior citizen will be the one to check out the following day.  We also paid the excess fee for breakfast of P175.00 for two days so my father won’t be having trouble during the check out.

We had our breakfast first before the morning swim and luckily, we were able to dine with a mountain view– so far, it was a great morning.

The kids can survive with cereals and egg and I can survive with chicken, pasta, eggs and hotdogs.  What I don’t like is that they don’t have an egg station where you can order on the spot and they cook on the spot too.  Hubby had to request the staff for eggs to be served in our table.  As for the sweets—Uhmmm, it’s understandable that they don’t have cakes and ice cream cos it  isn’t a five star hotel anyway.

After the breakfast, at past 7am, we got ready to swim with the kids.  Morning swim was our bonding with the kiddos and we had the fulfill that promise.

After swimming, we went to Citymall to buy groceries for the rest of the family members and lunch.  We have discovered an eatery near BDO in Citymall (you will just walk across) where you can buy affordable “lutong bahay” dishes– lumpiang gulay for only P10 each, 1 cup of rice for only P10, the pork dishes for P40 and fish for P50.  Most of the people eating there are tricycle drivers.  You can come here if you are in a tight budget.  Too bad, we just discovered this place on that day 😦

Just across the eatery, you will find Belmar’s store where you can buy plastic bag and other stuff.

After having our lunch in our hotel room, we packed our things, sorted out the wet clothes

We were transferred to Estacio Uno Boracay by BPHT and after few minutes of verification, we were given seashell necklaces and welcome drinks.

check in estacio

This is my second time in Estacio Uno and though the hotel is kinda small compared to other beachfront hotels, I like the interiors and the service.    There are only few things they have to improve but overall, I recommend this hotel and probably would be back some other time.

We loved the room though it is small because of its chic design.  We only brought 1 kid with us because we would pay extra for additional guests.  Aside from that, the room is only good for two adults.

After checking in, we rested for a while because it’s still freakin’ HOT outside and I had a cup of coffee while picking what we will wear for the rest of the day until the following day.

After the coffee break, we went out for the afternoon swim.

free toiletries estacio.jpg

I super loved their free toiletries and what they don’t have in other hotels is here– the sewing kit for wardrobe malfunction.

After the swimming, we got ready for our complimentary dinner in Estacio Uno and I thought we would have a problem because the front desk staff were not aware of that.  They told me that they only provide the guests with complimentary breakfast but the dinner is NOT complimentary.  I informed them that I only got the info in the hotel voucher and after a minute of verification, they asked us to choose from the menu of worth P1,000.

Surprisingly, the food is affordable– you can buy double burger patty with fries for only P185.  Other dishes were only averaging to P200 up and the food tasted good.

We just had the food served in our room because we were not comfortable eating in the lobby, hahaha!

dinner estacio room

After the dinner, we decided to sleep early because it will be the last day in Boracay the following day and whether we like it or not, we have to go back in Manila 😦

  1.  This day, I have realized that despite of being upset for different reasons, we still have to manage how to smile and be positive.
  2. We just realized we should have discovered the affordable eatery right away.  In that way, we could have saved a lot of money.  We just chilled in the first few days because what we have in mind is that we still have the time to explore.  Lesson learned:  Do what you have to do before it’s too late.
  3. We were glad we have organized everything in advance that’s why we didn’t have any hassle this day.

For the hotel review of Alta Vista and Estacio Uno, watch out for my next posts and my vlogs as well in my Youtube channel.

My BORACAY 2019 Day 2 (Summer Diaries Special)

Leave a comment Standard

This BORACAY trip was intended primarily for a special event which was the renewal of our vows.  I surprised hubby with this and we planned this event secretly with the members of my family for almost a year and a half.  We had lots of changes— the original plan of having a beachfront wedding at Estacio Uno , then I coordinated with Mama’s Fish House because I had to cut down expenses, but then since hubby’s relatives and some of our friends can’t go to Boracay, I decided to just have an intimate renewal of vows instead.  And now for the final change, with the help of Ms. Mariel of BPHT, I thought of having our renewal of vows on a boat.  Yey!

jas pool background

Ever since we visited Boracay for the first time in 2011, we always make it a point o visit or have a picture with this Gorilla.  So, since we stayed in Ambassador in Paradise for 3 days and 2 nights, we were free to have pictorial with this celebrity, hehehe!

with hubby 2

After a tiring day that we had the previous day,  we woke up before 6am and had the traditional morning walk just near Willy’s Rock.  We did not swim because we had to go straight to Al Fresco Restaurant for the breakfast buffet at 6:30am.

towel area ambassador

the towel area @the Ambassador in Paradise Hotel

Hubby went out first to return the towels we borrowed the previous night and I wondered why he has not come back yet, so I decided to go out already.  I was right with my instinct that he had encountered a problem.  He returned 5 towels but he only got 3 towel cards- the staff told him that the two other cards were missing!  When I heard that, I thought we would have a problem checking out because 1 missing towel card costs P1,600 and that would mean we would pay P3,200.  Of course, if they would ask us to pay for the missing cards, I would complain because we have returned 5 towels and it was not our problem if they have lost the two cards.  The staff assured us that the incident will be reported so at least we didn’t have to worry about anything at all– especially that the we were about to celebrate a very important event on that day.

breakfast @ Al Fresco Restaurant

I didn’t want to ruin our special day so we just enjoyed the morning and filled our tummies with great food.  I  was super satisfied with our breakfast (being a very picky eater, it means the restaurant did a very good job because I was satisfied )— Hubby and I had a heavy meal because we knew that we would have a late lunch.

While I was taking a shower, hubby left to buy food @ Andok’s for the other family members.  We didn’t have our lunch yet because we were still full at that time.  We decided not to let my father and youngest kid join us because we already have anticipated the scenario–There would be a senior citizen complaining about the long walk and joint pains then a hyper kid who would run, jump and roll on the floor.  So only the two kids went with us in that event.

I really couldn’t wear the white wedding gown because I wasn’t able to press it, so I just chose an off-shoulder light pink glittery dress that I would wear supposedly in the reception.  Hubby also didn’t want to get too much attention if we are going to walk in Station 1 in front of Astoria and wait for the boat tom dock.  If only I had pressed the gown the day before, I won’t mind the attention that we would be getting (hi hi hi!)

For the make up, I settled for the simple and natural look– wearing heavy make up would be a problem especially if I decide to swim after the event.  After applying the sunblock and day cream, I just put a little foundation and pressed powder with very light coral blush, bronzer and highlighter.  Special thanks to Anne Viray for the makeup tips!  I also didn’t style my hair- just sprayed it with Tresemme Hair Spray for the sides and just combed it.

We arrived at the pick up point (in front of Astoria) before 11am.  After few minutes, Mark and Ms Mariel of BPHT arrived and I received my bouquet of pink and white roses.

before the rov

It was my first time to meet Ms Mariel in person though I coordinated with her regarding our roundtrip transfers since 2016 through phone or email.  They decorated the boat with white and pink organza fabric and combination of red and white roses.   After few minutes, Pastor Angelo and Pastor Peter arrived and we have chosen to dock in a quiet spot at Puka Beach for the ceremony.

(For the complete details about our renewal of vows, you may check the updates here in my site or YouTube channel.)

with pastor angelo and peter

kiss beach

After the ceremony, we dropped Pastor Angelo and Pastor Peter in Puka Beach then we have decided to swim since we have plenty of time left.  Part of our itinerary was Ilig-iligan Beach.  While we were in the boat on the way to that beach, we have changed to rash guards so we can have our afternoon swim since we didn’t swim that morning.  As soon as the boat has docked, to our surprise, two police officers approached the boatmen and we have already sensed that we were in trouble.

Hmmm!  We were in trouble!  (Self-check:  Have we violated the rules? ) As far as I know, it was included in our itinerary so I thought that they were not aware that docking and swimming there was not allowed.  I called Ms Mariel and she informed me that they didn’t know about this yet.  Of course, if they already know that it’s not permitted to dock there, why would they include it in the itinerary?

One of the policemen went to our boat to get our IDs for the police report.  That was something that I can’t forget.  After the renewal of vows, we should have enjoyed, but it turned out to be a TOTAL DISASTER.  We were not able to use the remaining hours for the island hopping since we rented that boat for 4 hours.  We didn’t blame the boatmen nor BPHT because nobody wanted this to happen.  The boat provider was fined P11,000 and the boat was put on hold.  We were dropped to Station 1 where we were picked up because they will go to the jetty port.  In the video below, you will see that the two policemen were with us in the boat.

After the incident, we just went back to the hotel to rest and have lunch.  After that, we headed to the beach for the afternoon swim.  After the renewal of vows, we gave the remaining hours and days for the kids to enjoy.

no island hopping

kyle and shane.jpg

After the afternoon swim and gazing at the adorable sunset, we went to the pool for another round of swimming.  Just like what hubby said, this vacation is not just for the two of us, it’s for the kids to enjoy 🙂

  1.  As much as I wanted to have my vlog launch on the boat or during the island hopping, it didn’t push through because of what happened. I just planned to have it either in Alta Vista de Boracay where we will check in the following day or in Lemon Cafe.

One thing that I have learned from this incident is not to freak out or overreact.                  Even the policemen who got our IDs for verification was calm in talking with us                  and the boatmen.  I think there was just a misunderstanding, but they should have            listened and spared them.  Nobody wanted this to happen that’s why i didn’t blame            anyone for this.  I just accepted what happened and enjoyed the rest of the day.

We also thought that we were still lucky because somebody asked if we wanted to               have our renewal of vows in Ilig-iligan Beach or in Puka Beach.  We just chose the             latter, and we were glad we did because if not, we wouldn’t have renewed our                     vows that day.

2. Another lesson was not to expect too much.  Because Ambassador in Paradise                     was categorized as five star hotel, I expected the same service and special                             treatment like what we have experienced in Edsa Shangri-la, and Discovery                         Hotels.  I thought they would give us a small surprise as well.

3.  No matter what happened to you, all you can cling to is your family so value the time that you have with them.  At the end of the day, before going to sleep, I thought of the vows that we have exchanged.  We didn’t have the time to write our vows so we just did it on the spot.  Hubby said he’s not that showy of his feelings but he did not leave me especially when I need someone to be with.  He already proved it to me a lot of times and exchanging the vows in front of our children is something that I would cherish til my last breath.

Despite of what happened, I would like to thank Ms. Mariel of BPHT for helping me out with this idea.  I just spent less than 20k for the intimate renewal of vows ceremony on a boat.  There was no special dinner and vlog launch but I got what I wanted already.  Of course, if you wanted to upgrade like hiring a make up artist, have the ceremony in the beachfront and set up a special dinner for your guests, it would cost more.  Let me tell you more how I renewed our vows on a budget in a separate blog post.

My BORACAY 2019 DAY 1 (Summer Diaries Special)

Leave a comment Standard

It’s been a week since we flew all the way here from Manila to Boracay and I think the 6 day vacay wasn’t enough!  It’s quite different if you will travel alone, with your hubby or with the whole family.  In this part 1 of my BORACAY special, I will tell you about my experience when we have traveled for the first time in group.  Because we traveled with the kids and with a senior citizen, we couldn’t think of our own happiness and comfort.  You had to think about them first before you make a decision.

Let’s go back to the main reason why we traveled with my 5 year old kid and my father– primarily because I wanted them to witness our renewal of vows.  Next, It was their first time to travel in Boracay and ride on a plane and lastly, I thought it would be fun to spend the summer together as a family.  Well, here in the Boracay series, I will give you tips on how you can save money and where to stay when you are in the island.

As early as 3:30am, we were all awake to prepare everything– the luggage, itinerary vouchers, IDs and boarding passes.  Nobody would drive us to the airport so I just booked a 6-seater car via my Grab app.  We left at 5am and we were able to reach the NAIA Terminal 4 at past 7am.

All of us have our boarding passes already and we all have baggage allowance of 7 kg, but I prebooked additional 20kg baggage allowance since I have a large suitcase plus one travel bag and a backpack.  Hubby bought another suitcase for Shane’s clothes to reduce the number of bags that we will take with us for that trip.  When I checked in the 2 suitcases, the attendant said that I already exceeded 9 kg and I need to pay additional P3,300 for that.  Had I known that I would pay that much, I should have prebooked another 20kg for just P500 online.  We didn’t have any choice so we paid for the additional fee, but that 3k is already a big help for the groceries but it vanished in just a flash (sigh!).

The kids were not able to charge their phones so they went to the charging station to charge.  At 9am, we were able to enter the boarding gate.

charging station

family plane

I also prebooked the inflight meals online because I anticipated the 1.5 hours trip from Kalibo to Caticlan Jetty Port.

inflight meal

When we have arrived at the airport, I waited for the BPHT staff to approach us.  I was expecting a signboard with the title of my blog (The Travel Blogger in Pink) but there wasn’t even a sign with my name on it.  Ms. Liza wasn’t as welcoming as our previous guide, Ms Jhoy, but probably they were busy in the office so they forgot my requests.  I trust Ms Mariel so much that every time we go to Boracay, I contact them to book our roundtrip transfers.  We also waited for few minutes for the van to arrive when we were already in Kalibo.

In the Jetty port, Mark welcomed us and guided us where to fall in line and verify our identities with our IDs and hotel vouchers.  After the boat ride, we rode another vehicle to take us to Ambassador in Paradise Hotel.

As soon as we have arrived, the staff were attentive and asked for our IDS and payment for the balance.  We were given seashell necklaces and welcome drinks in their small lobby/reception area while waiting.

FIRST IMPRESSION:  Honestly, it doesn’t look like a 5-star hotel and I was expecting a large lobby.

keycards and towel cards

Upon check in, we were given the key cards, info about WIFI access, towel cards and a basic mobile phone (because they do not have a landline in their rooms) that you can use to dial the front desk, housekeeping and the restaurant.

Room 501

We were assigned to room 501 (a family suite) in the ground floor with pool view at the veranda.  (The detailed review about Ambassador in Paradise  will be written in a separate post).

I was satisfied with the suite but I could have enjoyed more if we have a bathtub in the toilet.   I super loved their free toiletries and the location is super nice as well.  In the veranda you can relax because you have a pool and beach view.

jas and shane twinning

After checking the room, resting and unpacking, we decided to walk from Station 1 to D’mall to buy groceries.   I also told hubby about my surprise for him the following day so we can prepare in advance.   It took me almost an hour to unpack, organizing the clothes in the closet (I placed the tops, bottoms and dresses inside and the swimwears and cover ups in the suitcase) and the beauty supplies on the table.

Aside from the bathtub, lighted closet and vanity area, I also looked for  the pressing board and the iron.  I had to press my wedding gown for the renewal of vows the following day!  I didn’t bother to avail the pressing service because it would cost me around 1k approximately.

beach aftie

First, we walked in the beachfront– (we were tempted to swim in the beach but we didn’t do so because we had to get back at the hotel soon as my Papa will get hungry and there was nothing to eat.  We opted instead to use the way leading to the main road.

And here is what we saw:  TRAFFIC everywhere because of the road construction.

I would like to thank Mr. Russel Palmer of Crafts of Boracay for allowing me to document our grocery shopping in their store.    We bought red wine and dark chocolate for the renewal of vows the following day (wine and chocolate ceremony).  We also bought plastic plates, spoons and forks, powdered detergent, chips, bread, cup noodles, coffee, sugar, crackers, candies and bottled water.

After eating dinner (we just bought food in Andok’s), we went out for a walk to see how is the nightlife in Boracay now.  There were NO parties in the beachfront and firedancers just like before– we actually loved the NEW Boracay.  The people seem to be disciplined already.

family night

As much as we would like to rest already,  the night won’t be complete without the night swimming so we called the kids because they were looking forward for this.

The pool has floaters already that the guests can use.  They also have a lifeguard to look after the guests especially the kids.  We used our towel cards to exchange for towels in their booth so no need for the guests to bring the hotel towels in the pool area anymore.

outfit for the day.jpg

Top:  From Cynthia’s House of Sale in Marikina (P100)

Shorts:  Barbie at around P500-600.

I would like to thank Ms. Mariel of BPHT for her patience.  We have changed the time twice– at first when I told hubby he thought the 1pm island hopping would be super hot so we changed it to 9am.  ms Mariel immediately informed the boat provider and the pastors about the updated time.  After dinner we realized that we would be in a hurry because the breakfast at Al Fresco restaurant will begin at 6:30am and if we would finish by 7am or 7:30am, I only have 1,5 hours to prepare and we still have to go to Astoria because that’s the pick-up point.  I called her to inquire if we can have the activity at 11am so I can still do my make up and hair for the special event.  It’s a good thing that she understood that and granted my request.

It was such a tiring day so we slept early to recharge and to prepare for the important event the following day. (My Renewal of Vows will be written in another post)

  1. It would be better to prebook the meals and baggage allowance to avoid paying expensive fees.  We should have brought larger suitcases instead of travel bags.
  2.  Was it the right decision for me to book Ambassador in Paradise for the first two nights?  YES because its location.  I just didn’t feel the sincerity of the staff– I mean they do their job because they are obligated to do it and not because they like to do it.  Since it is tagged as a five-star hotel, I have very high expectations about the service and the hotel itself.  It can’t be compared to Shangri-la and Discovery Shores.  There were no welcome fruits and they didn’t make us feel special and feel at home.
  3.   In the first night, we realized also that we just can’t think about ourselves– we need to consider the other members of the family.

A Secluded Family Resort in Paradise: A Review of Fairviews & Bluewater (TBIP Summer Diaries)

Leave a comment Standard
Everytime  I book for a hotel in Boracay, I always go for the quiet area in Station 1 and it has to be beachfront.  I didn’t know what exactly happened, but I just found myself reading reviews and blogs about Fairways and then in just a flash, I already booked the property via  So, what convinced me to book in a secluded area in Bo. Yapak?  I’m a hypocrite and a liar if I won’t say that the photos didn’t help.  When I saw the image of the Ventana pool and the other amenities in the resort, that was the hint that I should give this a try.
In this post, I will give you my unbiased review of Fairways & Bluewater Newcoast.  Let us begin with their Front Office and Reservations staff.  When I heard about the Boracay closure and when the airlines and transfer service were willing to give a refund except them, I was quite disappointed.  I have reached them a lot of times via phone, messenger and email and they were firm in saying that they do not give a refund, but they can modify the dates up to 1.5 years.  I had no choice but to reschedule it to 2019.  I have informed them about the changes I wanted, but there was no confirmation from them yet.  One day, I just decided to take a peek at Boracay before its closure and surprisingly, their marketing manager approved the changes to April 15-17, 2018.  They gave me instructions to mail and asked for another voucher with the modified dates.  I received a reply from the latter that it would be impossible for them to issue another voucher because my booking with them was already cancelled due to the closure.  They encouraged me to contact the hotel directly.  When I called back Fairways to ask for the voucher, the reservations staff told me that they already have noted the changes in their system.  To cut the story short, I didn’t print any voucher at all.

The Fairways shuttle service

 Fairways front desk officers
We were picked up by BPHT and the Fairways shuttle took us to the property.  We were ushered to the Veranda Lobby to check-in, but uh-oh, there was a teeny-tiny problem.  Ms. Dindin, the front desk officer was asking for a voucher.  After waiting for about 10-15 minutes, they were able to confirm with the reservations and the changes were already applied in the system.

Ms. Dindin, Front Desk Officer

Though I have encountered a problem, I didn’t feel irritated.  Ms. Dindin was very friendly and accommodating.  While we were waiting, we even had a short talk about the Boracay closure and the presence of Ms. Jhoy of BPHT was indeed a great help because I didn’t get bored and she didn’t go until everything was finally okay.
Checking in

With Ms. Jhoy of BPHT

And so, upon confirmation, we had a short briefing about the amenities.  We were assigned to Villa Riviera and was a bit disappointed that my request to be assigned near the swimming pool wasn’t granted because they were fully-booked.  After giving us the map of the property, we left our luggage in the Luggage Area and planned to have lunch while waiting for the standard check-in time which is 2pm.
Now, let’s take a tour of our one bedroom suite in Villa Riviera.

Villa at night

I was expecting to be assigned in a higher floor, but we were assigned in the basement 😦  Anyway, when we opened the door and saw the suite, my disappointment turned into satisfaction.

Living and dining area

The suite was spacious enough for 3 people.  It was more than what I expected.  It has a living room, a dining area, kitchen equipped with kitchen utensils and cutlery.  It has two bathrooms (one common bathroom) and the other one located in the bedroom.

The kitchen

One advantage of choosing a suite is that you can stock groceries and even cook your own food in the kitchen.  They almost have everything that you need to make your stay comfortable.  They have a grocery store beside the main gate where you can buy snacks, drinks and other things that you need.

I enjoyed the spacious bathroom– the hot shower and the hot bath in the tub.  It’s just that the bidet in our bathroom wasn’t functioning.  As for the toiletries, those were basic and incomplete.  They didn’t provide bathrobes, cotton buds, razor/shaver, sewing kit and bubble bath gel.

Bath tub 1
The bedroom was big enough for us.  Our 10 year-old kid slept with us in the room and shared the bed with her.

There was a writing desk in the room, a nice blogging area actually, but I wasn’t able to utilize it because I knew that we had very limited time so I didn’t bring my lappy with me.

One thing that I loved about the suite is the wardrobe room/walk-in closet.  Our stuff especially the clothes were only in one place because of this.  When you open the door, you can see the open closet where you can easily see your stuff.

They have two terraces– one in the living room (with two chairs) and the other one in the bedroom (one chair).  When you open the sliding glass door, you will witness the amazing view of the golf course.

Fairways security officer

All the rooms in the suite have a phone but we were not able to use them because when we didn’t have to call for help.  When you go out of the villa, there is a waiting area for a shuttle service and there were times that before we sit down, a security officer would approach us to ask where we wanted to go.

Where to go in Fairways?  Actually, there is no need for you to go out because they almost have eveything that you need.
1.  The Pools
The Ventana Pool

Hideaway Jacuzzi
I liked the view here but the water is dirty if you come at lunch or in the afternoon.  Better yet, come when they open at 9 or 10am.

 Lucia Pool

Villa lucia sign

Though The Ventana Pool has a breath-taking view of nature feature the Sibuyan Beach, one of my favorites is the Lucia Pool, which is not crowded and very clean.  Unlike the other pools that open at 9am, Lucia Pool opens as early as 7 am, so after having breakfast at 6 am, you can already proceed there if you would like to have the place to yourself.

Lucia Pool 2

Atlantis Pool
Aside from the Lucia Pool, Atlantis is my fave.  It was very relaxing and peaceful in the area– not crowded.

2.  The Private Beach

Paradise cove

If you don’t feel like going to the White Beach or Puka Beach, Fairways has its own private beach with lounge chairs.

Private beach lounge chairs

Honestly, though I like the view, I still prefer to swim in White Beach and Puka Beach.  This is advisable for those who would like to go to the beach early.  They are already open at 6 am.
3.  The Restaurants
Though they have several restaurants to choose from, we were able to try only the Kudetah Italiano Restorante and the Veranda Restaurant where we have our daily free buffet breakfast.

Kudetah district

Veranda receptionist

I wasn’t able to get her name, but she was very friendly to us and even offered to help in taking a family picture.
4.  The Spa
There are two spas to choose from:  the Maris Spa located near the private beach and the Bluewater Spa.  During our stay, I was hesitant to schedule for a treatment because of the time.  A spa treatment would take 2 to 3 hours.  Next time when we go back, I will include one of their spas in my Spa Detective Series.

Maris Spa

5.  The Gym

They have a gym located in Monterey ,but it’s not as big as what I have pictured in my mind before.  You can borrow towels and get a glass of water after your workout.  They have indoor jacuzzi but it is only for club members and you have to pay if ever you will use it.
Ideally, Fairways is perfect for big families.  The room is for 2 pax but you can add a kid for only P200 (includes breakfast already).
If there is a disadvantage of staying there, I could say that it has something to do with the schedule of the trips going to D’mall and vice versa.   We have experienced calling a tricycle instead and we paid P100 per ride.

Waiting for the shuttle budget mart

Will we come back?  Definitely YES!  Next time, I will bring all of my kids with us.

My Boracay 2018 Day 2 (TBIP Summer Diaries)

Comment 1 Standard

So, we were given a chance to go to Boracay before its closure on the 26th and we had to savor every moment.  It was a limited 3/d-2/n vacay and we had to manage our time.  Because our bodies were refueled last night, we were ready to explore White Beach on our 2nd day.  I soaked myself in the hot tub before preparing our things needed for the entire day.

There’s a waiting area in Villa Sycamore (the villa beside Villa Riviera).  After few minutes, a security officer approached us and he called a shuttle to drop us to Veranda Lobby where we will have our buffet breakfast.

We were the first guests to enter the Veranda Restaurant at 6 am.  I anticipated the fact that restaurants get busy at around 8 am and while it wasn’t jampacked with people yet, we could enjoy our breakfast.  We picked a table near the golf course view.

I wasn’t expecting much of their breakfast choices since I’ve read blogs and reviews that there was nothing special about the breakfast buffet.  Well, for that morning, I was satisfied because there were various food choices.

Breakfast day 2

I took a lot of photos of their food, but I didn’t post all the pics here because I intend to make a review of Veranda Restaurant.  After filling out our tummies, we went for a short walk to explore Fairways before we head to White Beach to buy food which we will take with us in our island hopping.  While walking, we found Villa Lucia; unfortunately, we didn’t have our stuff with us at that time because we left it at the luggage counter and we had very limited time so we went back to the Veranda Lobby instead.

Fairways has shuttle service for their guests, but we had to wait for 30 minutes before we get a ride.  That morning, we had to be in Astoria at 10 am because BPHT will pick us up for our parasailing activity.  We didn’t have any choice but to just call a tricycle to bring us to D’Mall and we paid P100 for that.  After buying food at Andok’s D’Mall, we started our morning walk in White Beach and I fell in love with the beach!

I understood why the government has decided to save the island and I truly support them in their advocacy.

At 10 am, I texted Mark, BPHT’s guide and he was already there.  A boat transported us in the part where they do the parasailing activity.  The guides gave us few instructions.  At first, it was normal to experience fear, but after few minutes, I felt relaxed and I couldn’t help but to admire the amazing view.

Parasailing 2

After the parasailing activity, the boat dropped us to Station 3 where we waited for the private boat for island hopping.  The funny thing is that… it couldn’t be considered island hopping because we just went to Puka Beach to have a swim and we opted not to go to Magic Island and Crystal Cove.  We had very limited time and I knew that island hopping would take us 3 to 4 hours.  Hubby would like to catch the sunset in White Beach that’s why we decided to cut the activity.

After our activity booked via BPHT, we went back to our suite in Fairways & Bluewater.  We visited Monterey because the play lounge and the gym is located there.  I was quite surprised to see that the gym is small.  It’s been months that we haven’t had our workout that’s why we didn’t even perspire.  We headed to the Laguna pool, but when we saw it, we opted not to swim– the pool wasn’t inviting and we thought that it would be a waste of time.

Hubby workout

Unlike the other luxury hotels/resorts, Fairways only allow the guests to use the outdoor jacuzzi.  You have to pay if you will use their indoor jacuzzi.  So, we just took the shuttle to the main gate and hired a tricycle to take us to Station 1.  We paid P100 again because hubby didn’t want to miss the sunset in White Beach.   Well, it was worth the money because we were able to witness the Boracay sunset.

Sunset day 2

Boracay is considered a paradise and the favorite summer destination of tourists especially the foreigners.  In my short stay, there was something smelly in some areas, but there were locals who were busy with the road constructions and clean-up.

We keep on coming back to Boracay because of its fine, crystal-like sand and we are already excited to see it next year.  Yes!  My whole family will be there to see the NEW Boracay in 2019.  Thanks to Airasia because we have successfully rebooked our flights for next year.

White sand

We walked from Station 1 to D’mall and waited for the Fairways shuttle to drop us to the main gate.  We bought food in Citymall which is just across Fairways because that particular night, we wanted to have dinner in our suite.

Because we were extremely exhausted, we didn’t have night swimming.  Instead, we slept early to recharge our bodies for our last day in the island.  The following day, we planned a pool-hopping activity after breakfast before we finally say goodbye to Boracay.

Yey!  And so, I was able to take a sneak peek of paradise before Boracay will close on the 26th.  Though I’ve been to Boracay Island many times already, the excitement is just the same as my first visit.

I knew that we had to leave before 6am that’s why I prebooked our in-flight meals.  Our booking includes 20kg baggage allowance and value pack meal.

We didn’t expect to arrive early because all the time we have experienced delayed flights.

As soon as our plane landed, I texted Ms. Mariel of BPHT Booking Services and informed her that we were already there.  To my surprise, Ms. Joy of BPHT was already waving at me, holding a placard with my name in it.   Hmmm… that was impressive and so far, everything went well.

She ushered us to the Fairways van and we traveled from the airport to the Caticlan Jetty Port.  She bought tickets for us and assisted us with our luggage suntil we reached the Cagban Port and transferred to another van.   Everything was perfect until we arrived in the resort.

The Fairways shuttle dropped us to the Veranda Lobby where guests check in and out.  I approached Ms. Dindin, one of the Front Desk officers in the hotel and she was asking for my voucher.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to present one because cancelled my reservation due to the Boracay closure.  I received an email from saying that it is impossible for them to send a new voucher because the reservation was already cancelled.  I called the resort and they assured me that I won’t be encountering a problem since the changes regarding the date of my reservation was already in the system.  Ms. Dindin verified that thing to the Reservations Department and after few minutes, she told me that reservations is already putting my booking into their system.    Good thing, Ms. Joy was there to give me company while waiting.  She could have left already when we reached Fairways but she patiently waited until we checked in.  Thank you so much, BPHT!

Since it was only past 11am, we just left our luggage to the luggage room.  After we got our luggage stubs, we went to the Ventana pool area and we ordered pizza while charging our mobile phones.  We loved the view and we had a short photo session while waiting for 2pm.

View 5 ventana pool

We definitely fell in love with the breathtaking view and we couldn’t wait to hit the beach and to have our swim in their inviting pools.

We waited for the shuttle service to drop us to the Veranda lobby.

Veranda lobby while waiting

We were assigned to room 17101 at Villa Riviera–a spacious one bedroom suite.  (A separate blog post will be written to feature our assigned suite.)  I was quite disappointed because our room was located in the basement.  We wanted a poolside room and the one with veranda in the upper floors, but we couldn’t do anything but to accept the fact that the hotel was already fully booked.

Because we were exhausted, we decided to rest for two hours and get ready for an afternoon swim.   While hubby was taking a nap, my daughter Shane asked me if I wanted coffee.  How sweet it was when she prepared a cup of coffee for me.

Coffee service

There is a shuttle service that will transport you the different places inside the property or to the D’Mall.  We waited for a while and a security officer approached us and asked where we wanted to go.  The driver dropped us to Paradise Cove.

Private beach 1

The nice thing about Fairways is that they have their own private beach.  If you don’t like to go to White Beach, just ask the security officer to call a shuttle to drive you to Paradise Cove and ta-da!— in just a matter of minutes, you are already in their main beach.  They have lounge chairs for their guests, so you can relax while watching the sea.  The only thing that I have noticed, though the sand is white, it’s not as fine as they have in the White Beach.  Also, when we had our afternoon swim, my feet was hurt because there were lots of small rocks and shells under the water.

We decided to go back to the Ventana pool and we also tried the Hideaway Jacuzzi because it seemed nice in the photo and there was nobody using it at that time, but after finding out that the water was dirty, we transferred to the Ventana pool.  Eeew!  We felt like we were going to have a skin disease as my skin was becoming itchy already.

Ventana pool

We brought dry clothes with us because we wanted to go to D’Mall and have dinner there.

The beachfront was not as jampacked as it used to be– Yes, there were still tourists who visited the island but foreigners dominated the number, particularly Koreans and Chinese.  Boracay, despite of its present state remains to be my number one summer favorite destination.

We bought groceries at the Budget Mart, where the Fairways shuttle arrives every 30 minutes to pick up the guests.

We slept early because we had planned activities the following day.  Watch out for my next post featuring those activities.

A Peek at Boracay 2018 (TBIP’s Summer Diaries)

Leave a comment Standard

Happy Summer!  By this time you might be seeing my Instagram and FB posts.  For those who follow my posts and those who know me personally, you might be wondering why the hell am I here in Boracay.   I already have rebooked our scheduled trip to April 29 ro May 4, 2019 and I started searching for other summer destinations.   Well, I really tried my best to find one, but I always end up being disappointed.  It’s either the hotels are fully booked, per night is expensive or the sand is dark gray.  I already have conditioned myself that for this summer, I only have staycations to enjoy– not until the day I was searching for the rates of Boracay Cruise via 2Go.  I compared the rates to Airasia and I was surprised to see the low rates P13k plus for 3 pax (roundtrip). That moment, I had a sudden interest to go to Boracay before the closure on the 26th of April.

I immediately called Fairways & Bluewater and asked if it’s possible for me to rebook on April 15-17.  After 20 minutes, it has been approved by the Marketing Manager and the transfers and activities that were scheduled on the 29th will just be used on our trip.  Hmmm!  I was firm in my decision that I had to take a peek in Boracay Island this month.  Nothing beats the so-called paradise when it comes to the powdery white sand.  If I will be spending P20k plus to go to Batangas, Zambales or Pangasinan, it would be a better decision to go to Boracay for just P13k.    So, I booked our roundtrip Manila to Caticlan flights via Airasia and coordinated with BPHT and everything has been settled in few minutes.

I won’t be able to follow the itinerary that I have prepared for my 6-day Boracay vacay because it will just be a 3/d 2/n vacation instead.  Here’s what I have prepared:

April 15, 2018- 10:55am-Arrival to Boracay

11:30- Check in and explore Fairways

5:00pm-  walk to White Beach and D’Mall

April 16, 2018-  7am-  Breakfast

8am to 9:30- Morning walk

10:am-12nn- Parasailing

12nnto 1pm- LUNCH

1:00-3:30 pm-  Private Island Hopping

4pm-  Back to the resort to rest

7pm -Dinner

8pm- Night swimming

April 17m 2018 7am-breakfast

8am to 9am -pack the things and get ready

9:30am- Check out

The 6 Day Boracay Special will be scheduled on 2019 instead, but at least I will be able to see the island for the last time this year and on the peak season next year.  Watch out for my posts in IG and FB.  I will try to blog as soon as I get home on the 17th or 18th.   Bye for now, folks!

Boracay Activities with BPHT (The Island Hopping Experience)

Comment 1 Standard

Our Boracay 2017 Getaway is the best that I had ever because I carefully planned about it.  I  scheduled the Boracay activities on our 3rd day because I wanted to have all the time for ourselves and to feel relaxed on our last day.   We started with the zipline at 10am then we headed to Station 2 with Armel (our Guide from BPHT) and waited for our private boat.

Island hopping is really recommended for those who would like to explore and enjoy Boracay.  Before, I didn’t want to engage in this activity- I felt like this is a waste of time but thanks to BPHT my perspective has changed.

You can opt to book this by group (with other tourists) — or you can have a private boat.  I prefer having a private boat so you can control your time.  You can even  tell the boatman which places would you like to visit and you don’t have to wait for the other passengers.    You can bring your own lunch because the free lunch buffet is only for group island hopping.  We bought lunch in Andok’s and just had lunch when the boat stopped by Crocodile Island.

The sight of the tranquil sea made me forget all my troubles even for just a while.  I felt like a kid again– amazed to see the different attractions.

We were amazed to see vendors in the sea:  first one was the coconut vendor.  We bought 3 pieces of coconuts for P100.

The second one that we saw was the ice cream vendor.

When we were near Crocodile Island, we stopped by to snorkel.  At first, I was hesitant to jump into the water but the boatmen assured me that I will be safe.   I saw the amazing view under the sea- the coral reefs and the colorful fishes.

Our last destination was the Puka Beach- it is smaller than the White Beach but the sand is not as fine as what they have there.

We lined up just to take photos here- a proof that we have been in Puka Beach!

After that, we had a 15 minute swim before we finally go back to the boat.
